Key Components to Understand
Before buying, it helps to know what you are actually looking at.
Deck
The deck is the platform you stand on. Width typically ranges from 4.5" to 7"+ and length from 19" to 24"+. Size affects both rider fit and riding style — more on this below.
Fork
The fork holds the front wheel and connects to the bars via the compression system. For beginners, the compression type matters less than overall build quality.
Bars
Handlebar height is personal — your bars should reach roughly your hip or waist when standing on the deck. Too low and you will hunch; too high and control suffers.
Wheels
Wheel diameter ranges from 100mm to 125mm. Larger wheels roll faster and absorb rough surfaces better. 110mm is a solid all-round size for beginners.
Compression System

How Much Should a Beginner Spend?
A quality entry-level complete scooter starts at around 550 GEL. Below that price point, components are typically made from lower-grade materials that wear out quickly or, worse, fail unexpectedly.
Spending more upfront on a solid complete scooter is almost always cheaper than replacing cheap components after a few months of riding.
Choosing the Right Size
Deck size is not just about rider height — it is also about riding style.
Smaller, lighter decks (4.5"–5.5" wide, under 21" long) are oriented towards skatepark riding and air tricks. Less weight means easier rotation, higher jumps, and better manoeuvrability on ramps and rails. This is also the right range for younger and smaller riders who need a setup they can actually control.
